A Look Ahead to the 2021 Toyota 86

The Japanese carmaker believes the redesign will hit the market in 2021. Until that time, read on to learn more about the new style and features, at least what we know so far.

New, Larger Engine

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this latest development for the Toyota 86 is that the vehicle should get a new engine, most likely a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. While no definitive performance numbers are known, keep in mind that Subaru recently introduced a new 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that generates 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.

If the new engine in the 86 is anything like this current offering from Subaru, it equals a significant improvement from the engine in the current Toyota 86, which is a 2.0-liter that produces 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque.
