Plan Your Next Wine Tasting

There are many fun and interesting ways to spend a weekend afternoon with friends, and going on a wine tasting trip is definitely one of them. Visiting a winery gives you the chance to go out in nature, meet some interesting people within the community, and enjoy some amazing wine. Luckily for those living in or around Chesterton, Indiana, there are plenty of charming wineries in the area.

Running Vines Winery

Located only minutes away from Lake Michigan, this winery is a family business that was founded by two cousins. Current owner Niki, one of the two cousins, currently works alongside winemaker Emily and together they manage to craft amazing wine. Each bottle meets high standards for taste and quality, while also staying true to the influences brought by the owner’s Italian roots.

Their cellar is an ideal venue for wine tasting and guests are treated to a wonderful variety of local wines. It’s also very well suited for events such as parties or bridal showers, comfortably seating up to 25 guests. A regular tasting includes six different wine varieties, each with a special taste and aroma. Also, because wine often puts us in the mood for something to eat, guests can pair their wine with some cheese, pepperoni, or prosciutto.

Butler Winery

Another winery that’s located right in Chesterton, Butler Winery had humble beginnings, starting out as a booth at the local European Farmer’s Market. However, due to the quality of their wine, their popularity kept on growing until it was obvious that they had to become a permanent local business. The Chesterton Tasting Room was opened in 2008 and it quickly gained a reputation with wine lovers all over northwestern Indiana.

Visitors can choose to have their wine either indoors or in a lovely outdoor garden at the winery. A regular tasting involves eight different varieties. All of the Butler wines are made at their own vineyard in Bloomington, Indiana. After tasting and choosing their favorite variety, visitors can purchase bottles of wine, but also wine-related gifts like corkscrews or figurines.

Shady Creek Winery

Located only 20 miles from downtown Chesterton, this amazing wine tasting location sits right on Lake Michigan’s shore and is spread along 20 acres. Visitors are treated to a selection of custom-crafted wines that they can experience either indoors or outdoors, with the patios and covered porches offering great views.

They serve a mix of dry red and white wine, along with a selection of sweet wines. There’s also an extensive food menu with sandwiches, salads, and all kinds of plate selections to go with your drink. If you choose to visit them on a Sunday, you will be treated to a live music show starting from 1 p.m.

Spending a few hours with amazing wine and great food in the company of friends is something many of us love to do. These wineries offer exactly that, along with the guarantee that you’ll get to experience some of the best wine you’ve ever tasted.
